Riot Platforms earned an astounding £23.6 million in energy credits from ERCOT, Texas’ major power grid operator, just within August. The strategy? Minimize their significant energy use during severe heatwaves thereby easing pressure on the already struggling power grid.

This unconventional business technique sees Riot Platforms essentially paid to cease Bitcoin mining momentarily. Bear in mind that ERCOT shoulders nearly 90% of the state’s total electricity load. So you have here an interesting cocktail – a comprehensive provider doling out cash for large-scale consumers to ease off.

  • Texas recently experienced rolling blackouts due to extreme temperatures leading to high power demand as millions relied heavily on air conditioning systems.
  • In spite these incentives, Riot mined only 333 Bitcoin in August, equivalent to about £6.6 million, primarily benefiting the mining company directly.

The Lone Star State has been dealing with volatile energy prices and frequent blackouts prompting lawmakers to pass two bills incentivising businesses like Riot Platforms to dial down activities when it counts most – pay them more than what they could earn through Bitcoin!

The tech giant has added 11 new networks to its BigQuery public datasets, enabling users to execute complex on-chain queries.

The new additions to this heavyweight list include Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Ethereum’s Görli testnet, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon mainnet and Mumbai version plus Tron.
